Chinese authorities are calling for higher domestic coal and gas production as electricity use increased throughout the second half of this year and is likely to hit a record-high this winter. Peak electricity demand is set to rise by 12.1 percent, or 140 GW this winter, China’s National Energy Administration (NEA) forecasts, warning of shortages in Yunnan province.
