May 18 (LNG) - SNAM, the Italian natural gas grid operator and LNG import terminal stakeholder, has signed a contract with shipping and project company Golar LNG to charter the carrier “Golar Arctic” as a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) to be deployed in the port area of Portovesme on the Italian island of Sardinia. The Mediterranean island already has a small-scale onshore import facility owned by Avernir LNG.
The Golar charter contract was valued at €269 million ($282.5M) and includes the vessel and the costs to Golar of converting the “Golar Arctic” into an FSRU with storage capacity for up to 140,000 cubic metres. “Further to the full conversion of the vessel, the FSRU will be sold to the SNAM Group,” said the Italian company.
May 18 (LNGJ) - Gaztransport and Technigaz (GTT), the French designer of maritime liquefied natural gas storage and fuel tanks, said it was chosen by its partner, the South Korean shipyard Hyundai Heavy Industries, to design the cryogenic fuel tanks of six LNG-powered containerships.
“These six vessels will have a capacity of 7,900 containers each and will be equipped with LNG tanks, holding up to 6,000 cubic metres of LNG used as fuel. The tanks will be fitted with the Mark III Flex membrane containment technology, developed by GTT,” said the Paris-based company.
May 17 (LNGJ) - Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE), the country’s largest shipyard group, said it won $910 million of orders to build four LNG carriers. Two KSOE affiliates, Hyundai Heavy Industries and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, will construct two 174,000 cubic metres capacity vessels each and deliver them to an Asian buyer from the first half of 2025.
May 16 (LNGJ) - Equinor has delayed the scheduled May 17 re-start of the Hammerfest LNG export plant on Melkøya Island in northern Norway for a week as repairs have taken longer than planned after the September 2020 fire.
“During the weekend, a minor fault was discovered on a compressor that needs to be rectified prior to start-up. The component is now being replaced, and the stepwise process towards operations continues through the week,” explained Equinor. “Hammerfest LNG has been prepared for production, but we are taking the extra time necessary to safely resume operations,” added the company
May 16 (LNGJ) - Two more cargoes will be delivered to the UK from the US and Qatar. The 154,950 cubic metres capacity carrier “Golar Celsius” is scheduled to discharge a US shipment on May 20 at the UK Dragon import terminal in the Port of Milford Haven. The cargo was lifted on May 7 from the Sabine Pass facility. A Qatari cargo will then be delivered by the 205,960 cubic metres capacity Q-Flex vessel “Al Sheehaniya” on May 23 to Milford Haven’s other import terminal, the South Hook facility.
May 16 (LNGJ) – At least three LNG cargoes were being unloaded at Spanish ports this week. The 167,400 cubic metres capacity carrier “Methane Mickie Harper” was discharging a cargo from Peru on May 16 at the Bilbao terminal, according to shipping data. The 173,400 cubic metres capacity vessel “Ribera Duero Knutsen” was also scheduled to berth at Bilbao with a cargo from the US Sabine Pass plant in Louisiana and a third vessel, the 174,000 cubic metres capacity carrier “British Sponsor”, was heading for either Cartagena or Barcelona with a shipment from the US Cove Point plant in Maryland.
May 13 (LNG) - Romgaz Group, the Romanian natural gas company and utility, almost tripled first-quarter revenues to 3.92 billion Romanian New Leu ($827 million) while quarterly net income doubled to 979.6M New Leu ($206.4M) versus the prior-year quarter. Romania is in the European Union but is outside the euro zone.
Romgaz said Romania’s natural gas consumption for the quarter amounted to 44 terawatt hours, a drop of 11 percent on the year-ago quarter. Romania’s domestic natural gas production in the three months came to 1.30 billion cubic metres, 0.33 percent lower than in same quarter of 2021. Romgaz has just signed a credit facility agreement for €325 million ($338M) for the acquisition of all shares issued by ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Romania Ltd which holds 50 percent of the Black Sea XIX Neptun Deep Block concession.
May 13 (LNGJ) – Novatek, the Russian natural gas company and operator of the Yamal LNG plant in northern Siberia and the Arctic LNG II project hit by sanctions over the Ukraine invasion, has issued a notice through the London Stock Exchange on continuing its Global Depository Receipt (GDR) trading. “The Russian Federation Government Commission on Monitoring Foreign Investment authorized Novatek not to terminate its Global Depository Receipt (GDR) program and to continue GDR circulation outside the Russian Federation,” said the statement.
Novatek's GDRs are listed in London but are suspended from trading in the UK alongside securities from other Russian companies like Gazprom. The Russian government passed a law in April preventing ordinary shares underlying the GDRs from having voting rights and receiving dividends. Gazprom terminated the circulation of its GDRs after it was told to by the government while also being black-listed in many jurisdictions like the US and Europe.
May 12 (LNGJ) - Kyushu Electric Power, a long-term LNG buyer with current long-term contracts with the Australian Gorgon LNG and Wheatstone LNG plants, has launched a new subsidiary for LNG trading. “Kyushu has launched a new subsidiary dedicated to supply to meet emerging demand,” said the company.
Kyushu Electric said that the function of the optimization of fuel procurement would be transferred to the new subsidiary to integrate delivery scheduling and balancing in incremental demand and existing demand. The new LNG trading company, based in Fukuoka in Japan, will be called Q United Energy Supply and Trading Co. (Quest).
May 11 (LNGJ) - Three LNG carriers were heading for the UK this week with cargoes from the US and Peru as the UK National Balancing Point benchmark wholesale natural gas price hit a 10-month low at the equivalent of $18.00 per million British thermal units. The 177,000 cubic metres capacity “Marvel Heron” was berthing on May 11 at the UK Isle of Grain terminal in Kent with a cargo from Cameron LNG in Calcasieu Pass in Louisiana, shipping data showed.
The 174,100 cubic metres capacity carrier “Flex Volunteer” was then scheduled to deliver a cargo on May 13 to the UK South Hook terminal at the Port of Milford Haven from the Sabine Pass plant in Louisiana. A third shipment onboard the 167,400 cubic metres capacity “Methane Mickie Harper” was due to be discharged on May 14 at the UK Dragon terminal. The cargo was lifted on April 15 from the Pampa Melchorita plant on the Pacific Coast of Peru.
May 10 (LNGJ) - HAM Group of Spain, the developer of a growing European LNG filling station network, is also expanding into South America with a second LNG service station in Chile. HAM Chile will be in charge of the engineering process of the LNG station as part of a joint venture with regional operator Empresas Lipigas. The existing LNG station is located at the fuelling base of trucking company Transportes San Gabriel, in Linares, 300 kilometres south of the Chilean capital Santiago.
HAM said the second station would be located in Tabolango in the Valparaíso region and about 10 kilometres from Concón, a coastal city in central Chile and will open in June. “This new station will connect the regions of Valparaíso and Maule through a means of transport with cleaner energy. Our objective of having a green transport corridor at the national level in Chile is advancing rapidly,” said Esteban Rodríguez, Manager of LNG and Biofuels at Lipigas.
May 9 (LNGJ) - The 205,960 cubic metres capacity Qatari Q-Flex carrier “Al Sadd” was scheduled to discharge a cargo on May 9 at the Zeebrugge terminal in Belgium, according to shipping data. The 172,000 cubic metres carrier “Rudolf Samoylovich” carrying a cargo from the Yamal plant in Arctic Russia was in the English Channel on May 9 off Dunkirk. Data showed that the Bahamas-flagged vessel lifted its cargo on May 1 from the Sabetta loading terminal on the Yamal Peninsula.
May 6 (LNGJ) - Belgium and the Netherlands are receiving steady LNG flows from Qatar and the US. The 211,885 cubic metres capacity Q-Flex carrier “Al Khuwair” was discharging a cargo on May 6 at the Zeebrugge import terminal in Belgium, according to shipping data. The 174,100 cubic metres capacity carrier “LNGShips Manhattan” was scheduled to deliver a shipment on May 7 to the Dutch Gate import terminal in Rotterdam. The cargo was lifted on April 20 from the Sabine Pass export plant in Louisiana, operated by Cheniere Energy.
May 5 (LNGJ) - The 260,910 cubic metres capacity Q-Flex carrier “Aamira” is scheduled to deliver a shipment on May 12 to the UK South Hook terminal in Milford Haven, according to shipping data. The cargo was lifted on April 22 from Qatar’s Ras Laffan plant in the Arabian Gulf.
May 4 (LNGJ) - The 171,800 cubic metres capacity carrier “Tessala” berthed on May 4 at the UK Isle of Grain LNG import terminal in Kent with a cargo from the Arzew export plant operated by Sonatrach on the Mediterranean coast of Algeria.
The delivery to the National Grid-operated terminal came as the differential widened to more than $10 per million British thermal units between the lower UK benchmark National Balancing Point natural gas price of $19.55 per million British thermal units and the continental European Dutch Title Transfer Facility benchmark price.
May 3 (LNGJ) - European classification society DNV said there were 51 orders for LNG-powered vessels placed in the month of April. DNV said there were currently 775 confirmed LNG-fuelled ships and 221 additional LNG-ready vessels. So far this year, orders total 121 ships. The data shows that the growth was mainly driven by orders for large ships for deep-sea trade.
Commenting on the figures, Martin Wold, of DNV’s Maritime Advisory business, said: “Last month’s orders alone for LNG-fuelled ships added about half a million tonnes of LNG demand. Should this trend continue at the same pace, we could reach the 1,000 vessels mark by the end of this year. However, although we expect growth to continue, it is likely to be more modest for the rest of the year.”
May 3 (LNGJ) - Himalaya Shipping Ltd, an independent bulk carrier company incorporated in Bermuda and with 12 LNG dual-fuel Newcastlemax dry-bulk carriers on order and for delivery in 2023 and 2024, was approved for a trading switch at Euronext in Oslo.
“Oslo Børs, part of Euronext Group, congratulates Himalaya Shipping on the transfer from Euronext Growth Oslo to Euronext Expand Oslo that now counts 16 companies,” said an exchange statement. “At opening, the share price of Himalaya Shipping was set at 51 Norwegian crowns ($5.40) per share based on its closing price on the Euronext Growth on April 28,” added Oslo Børs. “This corresponds to a total estimated value of the company of approximately 1.64 billion crowns ($174 million),” it said.
May 2 (LNGJ) - The 154,950 cubic metres capacity carrier “Golar Tundra” was unloading a Nigerian cargo on May 2 at Europe’s largest LNG import terminal, the Isle of Grain facility operated by National Grid plc on the Medway River in Kent. Shipping data showed the cargo was lifted on April 19 from the Bonny Island plant on the Niger River Delta. The UK National Balancing Point LNG and wholesale natural gas price is currently at around the equivalent of $20.60 per million British thermal units while the European Union benchmark Dutch Title Transfer Facility price is $10.10 per MMBtu more at around $30.70 per MMbtu.
Two more LNG cargoes are headed for the UK and arriving next weekend. The 257,980 Q-Max vessel “Al Ghuwairiya” is scheduled to unload a Qatari shipment on May 8 at the South Hook terminal at Milford Haven. A cargo will be discharged on May 8 at the Dragon facility in Milford Haven from the 173,400 carrier “Maran Gas Amphilpolis”. The shipment was lifted on April 9 from the Pampa Melchorita plant on the Pacific Coast of Peru.
May 2 (LNGJ) - The Baker Hughes Rig Count reported three more rigs deployed in the US in the past week and taking the total to 698. Oil rigs are up three while natural gas rigs are unchanged at 144 along with miscellaneous rigs at two.
“The US Rig Count is up 258 rigs from last year's count of 440 with oil rigs up 210 and gas rigs up 48,” said Baker Hughes. The Canadian Rig Count is up 44 rigs from last year's 51 with oil rigs up 25 and natural gas rigs up 19.
April 29 (LNG) - Grupo HAM, the Spanish LNG fuel provider building a filling station network in Europe, has opened a new service facility at a key French traffic axis for truckers and vehicles. HAM said the LNG station is at Montmarault in France, located on the road to Moulins near exit 11 of the A71. This is the motorway that connects Orleans with Clermont-Ferrand, and the nearby E62 which connects Limoges with Macon.
“The new LNG service station in Montmarault, France, is open 24 hours a day throughout the year and is monitored to guarantee perfect operations and to quickly resolve any incidents,” said the company. HAM’s LNG station network is currently made up of more than 100 service stations, which are available on the main transport routes in Spain and Europe.
April 28 (LNGJ) - Russian natural gas company Gazprom issued a statement from its headquarters in Saint Petersburg saying it had halted gas supplies to Bulgaria and Poland over their refusal to pay for their gas in Russian roubles. “Gazprom has completely suspended gas supplies to Bulgargaz and PGNiG (Polish Oil and Gas Company) due to absence of payments in roubles,” said the Gazprom statement. “Payments for gas supplied from April 1 must be made in roubles using the new payments details, about which the counterparties were informed in a timely manner,” added Gazprom.
Poland and other members of the 27-nation European Union have refused to pay for their natural gas in roubles as Russia has demanded as a way of stabilizing and supporting the rouble, which has been weakened by Western sanctions. Poland's PGNiG said in a statement it would continue to monitor the situation and was prepared to obtain gas from other connections. Bulgaria's Energy Ministry said state gas company Bulgargaz had received a similar notice from Gazprom. Bulgaria is almost completely dependent on Gazprom for its gas supplies.
April 27 (LNGJ) - UK LNG import flows are continuing at a steady pace with a second May cargo already scheduled for the South Hook LNG import terminal at Milford Haven, according to the port authorities. The 260,900 cubic metres capacity Q-Max vessel “Rasheeda” is scheduled to arrive at the Welsh terminal on May 4 to discharge its cargo lifted on April 16 from the Ras Laffan production complex in Qatar.
April 26 (LNGJ) - Gasum, the Finnish state-owned liquefied natural gas provider to the Nordic countries and with stakes in two small-scale LNG import terminals in Finland, has obtained a distribution licence for the Belgian LNG fuel market. “The distribution licence allows Gasum to expand its supply network and guarantees safe and high-quality deliveries of LNG to customers bunkering in Belgium,” said Gasum.
“The new LNG distribution licence will allow Gasum to deliver LNG to maritime customers in Belgium, expanding its supply network in Northwest European ports and waters,” said the company. “The licence includes the important port of Zeebrugge, which is one of Europe’s leading pure car/truck carrier hubs. The number of LNG-powered car/truck carriers is growing rapidly, subsequently increasing the global demand for maritime LNG,” explained Gasum.
April 25 (LNGJ) - Four more LNG shipments from the US, Qatar and Peru are heading to be delivered in the next week to the two UK import terminals at the Port of Milford Haven in Wales, according to shipping data. The 174,000 cubic metres capacity vessel “Tenergy” is scheduled to discharge a cargo on April 29 at the South Hook terminal and which was lifted from the Sabine Pass export plant in Louisiana. The 173,400 cubic metres capacity vessel “Maran Gas Roxana” will unload a shipment on the same day at the Dragon import facility from the Pampa Melchorita plant on the Pacific Coast of Peru.
Two Qatari cargoes are then due to be delivered to South Hook. The first will arrive on April 30 at the facility on board the 211,840 cubic metres capacity Q-Flex carrier “Al Sahla”. The UK’s first May cargo is then scheduled to be unloaded on May 2 at South Hook by the 211,980 cubic metres capacity Q-Flex vessel “Al Rekayyat”.
April 22 (LNGJ) - The 261,988 cubic metres capacity Qatari Q-Max carrier “Mozah” was discharging a cargo on April 22 at the UK Isle of Grain import terminal, the largest in Europe and located on the Medway River in Kent. Shipping data showed that the vessel lifted the cargo on April 3 from the Ras Laffan export terminal in the Arabian Gulf.
April 21 (LNGJ) - The Dutch Government has decided against increasing output from the Groningen natural gas field, once one of the largest in Europe. The plans remain gradually taking the field off stream because of complaints about earth tremors. “The Netherlands only extracts gas if it can be done safely and responsibly. And extracting more gas from the fields in the province of Groningen is not safe,” said the Dutch government on efforts to replace Russian gas volumes.
“This should be considered only as a last resort, if, for example, gas deliveries to an entire region (including households and hospitals) are at risk. The government would only consider extracting more gas in Groningen if that would help prevent such a situation,” it added. The Dutch will try and boost LNG imports while keeping a minimal flow at Groningen from October 2022 of 1.5 billion cubic metres per annum, the equivalent of 16 LNG cargoes.
April 20 (LNGJ) - The 180,000 cubic metres capacity carrier “Rias Baixas Knutsen” is scheduled to deliver a US cargo to the UK Isle of Grain terminal in Kent by the weekend, according to shipping data. The cargo was lifted on April 7 from America’s newest export plant, Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass facility located south of Lake Charles in Louisiana. The delivery is scheduled as the UK National Balancing Point benchmark wholesale natural gas price has dropped to the equivalent of $22.50 per million British thermal units.
April 19 (LNGJ) - The Qatari Q-Max LNG carrier “Mekaines”, which has 261,137 cubic metres capacity and is among the largest in the world, is scheduled to discharge a cargo on April 23 at the UK South Hook import terminal at Milford Haven in Wales. The cargo was lifted from the Ras Laffan plant in the Arabian Gulf, according to shipping data. It also showed an Egyptian shipment being unloaded at Europe's largest LNG terminal, located southeast of London
At the Isle of Grain terminal in Kent, operated by National Grid plc, the 173,560 cubic metres “Stena Clear Sky” was discharging a cargo on April 19 lifted on April 9 from the Idku export plant in Egypt.
April 15 (LNGJ) - The Panamanian-flagged LNG carrier “Prism Brilliance” is scheduled to deliver a US cargo on April 21 to the UK South Hook import terminal at the port of Milford Haven in Wales. The cargo was lifted by the 180,000 cubic metres capacity ship on March 20 from the Freeport export facility on Quintana Island in Texas, according to shipping data.
April 14 (LNGJ) - Eagle LNG Partners of the US has signed an agreement with utility Aqualectra with a view to making Curaçao, located in the Caribbean together with sister islands Aruba and Bonaire, an LNG importer. Curaçao is a constituent country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands voted for by the people in 2010.
The Eagle LNG accord will open the way for Aqualectra to secure LNG in ISO containers shipped from the US state of Florida. “Both parties will continue on with the developments that will make supplying of gas possible. This will result in lower production costs, which ultimately means lower electricity and water prices for the people of Curaçao,” said a statement. The accord was signed by Aqualectra Chief Executive Darick Jonis, and Filipe Pinto, Vice President of Business Development of Eagle LNG. “A possible collaboration between Aqualectra and Eagle LNG brings about a great synergy, as Eagle LNG currently offers its services in Aruba as well,” added Eagle.
April 13 (LNGJ) - QatarEnergy signed a series of time-charter parties with a subsidiary of Japanese shipping company Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) for the long-term charter and operation of four LNG carriers, constituting the first batch of TCPs awarded under QatarEnergy’s huge LNG shipping-building programme.
“Concurrent with the signing of the TCPs, back-to-back LNG carrier shipbuilding contracts were signed between MOL and Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corp., for the construction of four new LNG carriers to serve Qatar’s LNG growth projects and future fleet requirements,” said the Doha-based company.
April 13 (LNGJ) - Two LNG cargoes are heading for the UK over the coming holiday weekend, including one from the Calcasieu Pass plant, located south of Lake Charles in Louisiana, and a second from Qatar, according to shipping data. The 174,000 cubic metres capacity carrier “Maran Gas Ithaca” is scheduled to deliver the US shipment on April 16 to the South Hook import facility at Milford Haven. The 205,940 cubic metres capacity Q-Flex vessel “Al Ghariya” is then scheduled to discharge a cargo on April 18 at South Hook that was lifted on March 30 from Ras Laffan in the Gulf.
April 12 (LNGJ) - The 73,990 Med-Class LNG carrier “Cheikh El Mokrani” is scheduled to deliver an Algerian cargo on April 12 to the UK Isle of Grain import terminal operated by National Grid plc on the Medway River, about 45 miles (72km) southeast of London. The cargo was lifted on April 6 from the Skikda plant on the North African nation’s Mediterranean Coast.
April 11 (LNGJ) - The 173,545 cubic metres capacity LNG carrier “Megara” is scheduled to deliver a cargo on April 15 to the UK Dragon LNG import terminal at Milford Haven, according to shipping data. The cargo was lifted on March 20 from the Pampa Melchorita liquefaction and export plant on the Pacific coast of Peru.
March 8 (LNGJ) - The 154,880 cubic metres capacity LNG carrier “BW Pavilion Vanda” was discharging a cargo on April 8 at the Isle of Grain terminal, operated by National Grid plc on the Medway River in Kent. The cargo was lifted on March 23 from the Corpus Christi export plant in Texas, according to shipping data.
April 7 (LNGJ) – French LNG storage tank designer GTT and its partner, the Finnish ship designer Deltamarin, have been awarded an Approval in Principle from the Norwegian classification society DNV for an innovative LNG-fuelled Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) design. The AiP was presented to Philippe Berterottière, Chairman and Chief Executive of GTT and Kristian Knaapi, Sales Manager at Deltamarin, by Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen, CEO of DNV Maritime at the classification society’s headquarter in Oslo.
“GTT and Deltamarin have been cooperating on the development of a new Dual-Fuel PCTC design, able to carry 8,000 units. This design introduces a new generation of PCTCs, incorporating GTT’s Mark III membrane LNG fuel tank and Deltamarin’s expertise in developing vessels,” said a statement.
April 6 (LNGJ) - The 205,960 cubic metres capacity Qatari Q-Flex vessel “Al Sheehaniya” is scheduled to deliver a cargo on April 12 to the UK South Hook import terminal in the port of Milford Haven, according to shipping data. The cargo was arriving as the differential widened between the UK National Balancing Point wholesale benchmark and the European Union’s Dutch Title Transfer Facility price. The UK NBP was last quoted at the equivalent of $31.75 per million British thermal unit.
April 5 (LNGJ) - The 148,450 cubic metres capacity carrier “LNG Imo” was scheduled to deliver a cargo on April 5 to the Sines import terminal in Portugal from the Bonny Island plant in Nigeria. Another Nigerian cargo is headed for Europe onboard the 142,990 cubic metres capacity vessel “LNG Enugu”. The carrier is scheduled to arrive on April 10 at the Cartagena terminal in southeast Spain. The Cartagena facility is also expecting a shipment on the 180,000 cubic metres capacity vessel, the “Adriano Knutsen”, in the days ahead. That cargo was lifted from the Corpus Christi LNG plant in Texas.
April 4 (LNG) - The UK’s two LNG import terminals at Milford Haven are receiving a steady flow of shipments from the US and Qatar and two are scheduled to be discharged in the next week. The 154,950 cubic metres capacity vessel “Golar Penguin” is scheduled to berth on April 6 at the Dragon terminal at the Welsh port with a cargo from Sabine Pass in Louisiana, according to shipping data. The 260,930 cubic metres capacity Q-Max vessel “Umm Slal” is then expected at the South Hook terminal on April 10 with a shipment from Ras Laffan in Qatar.
April 1 (LNGJ) - Shell said production had started on Block 22 and NCMA-4 in the North Coast Marine Area in Trinidad and Tobago to boost LNG production capability at the Point Fortin liquefaction plant in Trinidad called Atlantic LNG. Colibri is a backfill project that is expected to add around 30,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, or 174 million standard cubic feet per day of sustained near-term natural gas production, rising to 250 mmscf per day at peak.
“The start-up of Colibri follows the amendment to the Block 6 Production Sharing Contract for the Manatee field, marking yet another significant milestone in Shell’s growth strategy,” said Shell. “This will allow for the delivery of gas both domestically and internationally through Atlantic LNG,” added the UK-based major.
March 31 (LNGJ) - Stolt-Nielsen Ltd, the Norwegian company which derives a small part of its income from the Avenir LNG joint venture with partners Höegh LNG and Golar LNG, reported first-quarter 2022 net profits of $52.3 million with revenues of $606.2M compared with a net profit of $35.0M and revenues of $593.M logged in the fourth quarter of 2021.
The Stolt-Nielsen group operates in an array of businesses including tankers, terminals and gas. “Typically the first quarter of the year is the seasonally weakest quarter. However, this year the first quarter showed no signs of weakness as we posted our strongest quarterly results since 2008,” said Chief Executive Niels G. Stolt-Nielsen. “Stolt Tank Containers led the way with record earnings. Although shipment volumes were down, margins held firm, supported by our ability to secure space on containerships and higher demurrage revenue,” added the CEO.
March 30 (LNGJ) - The southwest African nation of Angola has now stepped up as an LNG cargo supplier to the UK. The 154,950 cubic metres capacity carrier “Malanje” is scheduled to deliver the shipment on April 4 to the South Hook terminal at Milford Haven. The cargo was lifted on March 24 from the Soyo liquefaction plant located in northern Angola near the Congo River delta.
March 29 (LNGJ) - The UK is receiving a steady flow of shipments from Qatar with the 261,050 cubic metres capacity Q-Max vessel “Al Mafyar” scheduled to discharge a cargo on April 4 at the South Hook terminal at the Welsh port of Milford Haven, according to shipping data. The cargo was lifted on March 18 from the Ras Laffan plant in the Gulf.
March 28 (LNGJ) - Nippon Yūsen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK), the Japanese shipping line, said it had taken delivery of the LNG-powered pure car and truck carrier (PCTC), the “Plumeria Leader”. The vessel was built at the Shin Kurushima Dockyard in Hiroshima.
“This is NYK's second LNG-fuelled car carrier following the ‘Sakura Leader’ being delivered,” said NYK. “This ship will be one of the world’s largest PCTCs, capable of transporting approximately 7,000 units (standard vehicle equivalent) per voyage, beginning with vehicles produced by the Toyota Motor Corp.,” added NYK.
March 25 (LNGJ) - The first April LNG cargo for the UK will come from Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean, according to port authorities. The 173,400 cubic metres capacity carrier “Minerva Psara” lifted the cargo from the Point Fortin liquefaction plant in Trinidad on March 20 and the shipment is scheduled to be discharged on April 1 at the UK South Hook import terminal in Milford Haven.
March 24 (LNGJ) - NextDecade Corp., the developer of the of Rio Grande LNG project along the Brownsville Ship Channel, has executed a binding Heads of Agreement with China’s Guangdong Energy Group Natural Gas Co., for the supply of LNG cargoes for a 20-year term. The Rio Grande project has ultimate plans and permits to produce up to 27 million tonnes per annum of LNG from five liquefaction Trains.
The accord proposes Guangdong Energy will purchase up to 1.5 MTPA of LNG indexed to US benchmark Henry Hub natural gas price. The LNG supply will initially be from Train one of Rio Grande LNG, which is expected to start commercial operations in 2026. “We are honored to have Guangdong Energy as the second foundation customer of our Rio Grande LNG project and our first Chinese customer,” said Matt Schatzman, NextDecade’s Chairman and Chief Executive.
March 24 (LNGJ) - Sound Energy, the UK company with natural gas assets in Morocco and a micro-LNG production project, reported progress on several fronts, including sales, finance and engineering. Sound Energy executed an $18.0 million loan facility from Afriquia Gaz, the Morocco-based company which has also signed a 10-year, take-or-pay LNG sale and purchase and taken a stake in Sound Energy.
The London-listed company is planning to develop a micro-LNG plant for the Tendrara 5-Horst gas well in its Tendrara production concession in eastern Morocco, near the Algerian border. The company also extended its Moroccan Anoual exploration permit duration from eight to nine years. “During 2022, we will continue to work tirelessly to deliver additional value for our shareholders through meaningful progression on both the Phase 1 of the micro-LNG project and the Phase 2 of the gas pipeline development to deliver increased future company growth,” said Graham Lyon, Executive Chairman.
March 23 (LNGJ) - In LNG shipping activity there were fewer ships near land on March 23 than is normal with impending deliveries at terminals in the Atlantic Basin and the Mediterranean. One of the few was the 142,650 cubic metres capacity vessel “LNG Niger River” with a cargo from the Nigerian plant at Bonny Island and scheduled to be discharged on March 29 at the French Montoir-de-Bretagne terminal on the Atlantic coast, according to shipping data.
The 177,000 cubic metres Cypriot-flagged vessel “Fedor Litke” was heading through the English Channel on March 23 and awaiting orders after lifting a cargo on March 16 from the Sabetta loading terminal at the Yamal plant in Arctic Russia.
March 22 (LNGJ) - Peru’s LNG exports in March are heading for the North Asian markets of China and South Korea, according to data from energy company PeruPetro. Four vessels have left the Pampa Melchorita liquefaction plant on the Pacific Coast of Peru with three headed for South Korea on the 173,540 cubic metres capacity carrier “Megara”, the 135,400 cubic metres capacity carrier “Madrid Spirit” and on the 173,400 cubic metres capacity vessel “Sevilla Knutsen”.
During the current winter season Peru has also shipped cargoes to Europe. The fourth cargo lifted so far in March from the Peruvian plant is heading for Tangshan in China on the 170,200 cubic metres capacity vessel “SFC Melampus”.
March 21 (LNGJ) - The UK is receiving more LNG shipments from the US and Qatar this week. The 174,000 cubic metres capacity carrier “Maran Gas Hector” is scheduled to discharge a cargo on March 24 at the UK Dragon terminal at Milford Haven in Wales from the Sabine Pass plant in Louisiana. The 257,900 cubic metres capacity Q-Max vessel “Al Ghuwairiya” is scheduled to berth on March 25 with a Qatari shipment for Milford Haven’s South Hook terminal.
