Nhon Trach Unit 4 — one of two units at Vietnam’s first LNG-fired power plant — is scheduled to begin commercial operations on December 20. PetroVietnam invested an estimated $1.4 billion in the twin units, which have a combined capacity of 1,620 MW.

Qatar is progressing to expand its LNG production from 77 million tonnes to 142 million tonnes per annum in-country, with QatarEnergy CEO Saad Al-Kaabi announcing the first new mega-train from the North Field LNG expansion programme is expected to come online by the third quarter of 2026.

Pakistan is preparing to sell excess LNG, imported from Qatargas and Eni, starting from January 1, 2026, after lower gas-burn for power generation created a surplus, petroleum minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said. The Government  initially tried to divert imported LNG to domestic customers, but this move increased circular debt in the gas sector and caused loses of around Rs1,000 billion (US$3.55 million) since 2018-19.

British energy regulator Ofgem today approved the first £28 billion ($37.33 billion) of a total £90 billion of investment in UK power and gas network companies – including greater capabilities for LNG imports.

Turkish state gas company BOTAS has agreed to purchase a total of 11 bcm of LNG-equivalent over 10 years from Germany’s state-owned SEFE and Italy’s Eni starting from 2028. Shipments will take place in winter only, sourced the partner’s Atlantic Basin supply portfolios.

Itochu, Osaka Gas and Toho Gas agreed to offtake e-LNG, or synthetic methane, from a plant developed by TotalEnergies and TES in Nebraska. The Japanese trio took a combined 33.3% stake in the Live Oak e-NG project and the related offtake will help the project reach FID in early 2027.

Asian economies take advantage of falling LNG prices by switching from gas- to coal-fired generation. “Around 30% of the 380 billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas demand growth has come from coal-to-gas switching since 2010, and virtually all of this happened in China," the International Energy Agency (IEA) finds.

Puerto Rico’s financial oversight board has approved a revised LNG supply agreement between Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA) and New Fortress Energy affiliate NFEnergía. The revision is expected to save the country more than $4 billion in fuel costs over the duration of the contract.
