Two shipping majors – TMS Cardiff Gas and BW Group and – have placed LNG carrier orders at South Korean shipyards, including the word-first three-tank carrier order. Expansion in the gas carrier segment is driven by rising ton-mile demand as Asian buyers replace curtailed Qatari volumes with cargoes from North America.
South Korea’s Foreign Minister, Cho Hyun has pleaded his Omani counterpart Badr Albusaidi to supply LNG and crude oil. KOGAS, meanwhile, vowed to bring the entire LNG equity volumes from its projects in Australia and Canada to its Korean home market to mitigate the risk of fuel shortages.

Canada’s Prime Minister Mike Carney is pushing to advance a free trade agreement with India that would open a strategic outlet for LNG, agri-food and technology exports. The move reflects Canada’s effort to fast-track Pacific facing LNG infrastructure and lock in long-term offtake.
India has rejected a cargo of Russian LNG from the US-sanctioned terminal despite domestic supply shortages amid Middle East tensions – effectively stranding a 138,200-cbm tanker near Singapore, according to ship-tracking data.
An LNG tanker loaded at ADNOC’s Das Island terminal exited the Strait of Hormuz in May and is now on route to India. Venture Global and Thailand’s state-controlled energy giant PTT PCL are in advanced talks for binding LNG offtake, supposedly from the Plaquemines or CP2 export facilities in Louisiana. If finalized, the deal would help diversify Thailand’s LNG supply away from Middle Eastern sources.
Eni has secured about 2 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG from its South Hub and North Hub projects in Indonesia, supplied via the Bontang terminal in East Kalimantan. The additional supply will help Eni reach its target of more than 20 mtpa of contracted LNG supply by 2030.
AG&P is raising its stake in Vietnam’s Cai Mep LNG terminal to 100%, taking full control of the 3 mtpa terminal as Hai Linh Company divests its interest.
