The Republic of Cyprus, the Greek-speaking part of the divided island in the process of developing the Aphrodite natural gas field in the Eastern Mediterranean as a regional gas and LNG hub, is involved in a dispute with a Chinese company over a separate LNG import terminal project still under construction.

Cyprus has held a foundation stone-laying ceremony at the site of the Mediterranean Island’s first LNG import terminal being built at Vasilikos port near Limassol by a Chinese company and partly financed by the European Union.
