Sovcomflot, the Russian shipping line, has organized financing for two new liquefied natural gas carriers to increase its LNG fleet to 16 vessels as Russia expands its presence in the sector with more projects.
Sovcomflot, the Russian shipping line with growing interests in LNG projects and LNG-powered vessels, swung to a first-half loss and said the conventional tanker freight market remained challenging, with rates still well below the average levels seen over the last quarter of a century.
Sovcomflot posted a net loss for the year as it made progress in the LNG shipping sector by starting deliveries from the Russian Yamal LNG plant and securing fuel for a small fleet of LNG-powered, ice-class Aframax oil tankers under construction.
Sovcomflot, the Russian shipping line building up a fleet of LNG carriers, has signed a $260 million loan agreement with Russia’s VTB Bank to purchase an additional carrier to deliver cargoes for the Yamal liquefaction and export plant being built in the Arctic region.
