German leader Scholz and EU chief Von der Leyen talk down fossil fuels and want cheaper LNG and more wind
German Chancellor and leader of European Union socialists Olaf Scholz talked down fossil fuels in a major speech and stated that renewable energy like wind and solar are the future and could be the saviours of German industry and the beleaguered economy.
Lubmin LNG event
Jan 13 (LNGJ) - TotalEnergies said an official inauguration ceremony would be held on Saturday, January 14, for the floating LNG import terminal at the Baltic port of Lubmin and attended by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to mark commissioning. The floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), the “Neptune”, was chartered from TotalEnergies by the Lubmin project developers, a private company called Deutsche ReGas GmbH.
“The vessel has an annual regasification capacity of 5 billion cubic metres of gas, enough to cover about 5 percent of German demand,” said the French major. “Following Deutsche ReGas’s open season procedure in October 2022 TotalEnergies also contracted regasification capacity of 2.6 Bcm per year and began to deliver LNG from its global integrated portfolio to the Lubmin terminal,” added TotalEnergies.
UAE energy accord
Sept 26 (LNGJ) - German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has signed an agreement with the United Arab Emirates over unspecified future energy supplies which could involve receiving the odd cargo from the emirate of Abu Dhabi, which ships one of two cargoes a week from its Das Island plant. Scholz signed an accord after talks with the UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during a three-day tour of the Gulf. “I welcome the signing of the joint declaration on energy security,” said Scholz after the talks.
