US shipping logistics and bunkering company Seaside LNG has signed an agreement with cruise firm Carnival Corp. for re-fuelling services at the Texan port of Galveston.
US shipping logistics and bunkering companies Seaside LNG and Polaris New Energy gathered with Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding executives to christen the recently constructed LNG bunkering barge “Clean Everglades” to be deployed along the US Gulf Coast.
The LNG supply company in the US state of Florida owned by Pivotal LNG and NorthStar Midstream, plans to increase the liquefaction capabilities to 360,000 gallons per day and double its storage capacity to 4 million gallons using the growing expertise of construction services companies in the US small-scale LNG sector.
Sea-LNG, a global coalition led by energy and shipping companies backing the increased use of liquefied natural gas as a maritime fuel, said the LNG and energy Port of Corpus Christi, the largest in the United States by total revenue tonnage, has become the latest member.
The Port of Corpus Christi in Texas is the fourth North American port to join the coalition but is the first port located on the strategic, energy-rich Gulf of Mexico.
Since launching in July 2016, Sea-LNG’s membership has grown from 13 to more than 40 members from leading global companies,
“The Port of Corpus Christi is one of the United States’ leading energy ports, and has been quick to appreciate the importance of LNG into its bunker offering,” said Peter Keller, Chairman of Sea-LNG.
“ We’re delighted to welcome this forward thinking and innovative port into our membership at a time when the maritime sector continues to aggressively work to decarbonise its operations as well as reduce local emissions harmful to human health,” added Kellner.
The Port of Corpus Christi’s decision to join Sea-LNG was a part of its commitment to environmental stewardship.
The Port purchases 100 percent of its power from renewable sources, is upgrading its vehicle fleet to electric and hybrid technology, and is creating a technological advancement programme for emissions control and decarbonisation.
“As the leading energy port in the Americas, the Port of Corpus Christi considers LNG indispensable in our energy export portfolio, with the expansion of local operations helping to propel the United States as a top global LNG exporter,” said Port of Corpus Christi Chief Executive Sean Strawbridge.
“By joining Sea-LNG, we’re sending a clear message that LNG as a marine fuel aligns with our ambition to strengthen our competitiveness in LNG as a leading fuel for the transport sector,” added
Sea-LNG has members across the entire LNG value chain including providers of the product, users, engine and asset suppliers, and class societies.
The group is already recognised as an international leader in LNG matters. Each member organisation commits mutually agreed human resources, data analysis and knowledge sharing.
Sea-LNG said it regarded itself as a driver in a multi-sector industry aiming for a global adoption of LNG to create cleaner shipping by 2025.
Sea-LNG’s other members include: ABS, Carnival Corp., Chart Industries, Clean Marine Energy, DNV GL, Eagle LNG Partners, Fearnleys, FortisBC, Gasum AS, GE Marine, GTT, JAX LNG, “K” LINE Group, Lloyd’s Register, Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and NYK Line.
The membership list additionally includes The Port of Long Beach, Port of Rotterdam, Port of Virginia, Qatargas, Shell, Société Générale, Sohar Port & Freezone, Stabilis Energy, Sumitomo Corp., Total, TOTE Inc., Toyota Tsusho, Uyeno Group of Companies, Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, Wärtsilä, and Yokohama-Kawasaki International Port Corp.
Dominion Energy has closed its acquisition of Pivotal LNG from the utility, Southern Company, to enter the small-scale market for deliveries by containers, trucks and to be a supplier to the maritime fuel market.
May 24 (LNGJ) - JAX LNG, a small-scale liquefied natural gas facility located at Dames Point in Jacksonville, Florida, has held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the start-up of the newly constructed plant. JAX LNG is the first small-scale plant in the US with both marine and truck-loading capabilities and was constructed through a joint venture between Pivotal LNG and NorthStar Midstream.
“Pivotal is committed to transforming the nation's energy landscape by leading the way in how we supply liquefied natural gas to our customers,” said Tim Hermann, President of Pivotal LNG. “With our partners NorthStar, we've implemented innovative solutions to make clean, safe, reliable and affordable LNG available to marine and inland customers that can be served from the port of Jacksonville,” added Hermann.
Pivotal LNG, the US clean fuel supplier, has made its first delivery of liquefied natural gas to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) after earning the contract award to serve NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville in Alabama.
Aug 22 (LNGJ) - Jax LNG, the port bunkering project in Jacksonville in Florida, has received a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) for the facility from the United States Coast Guard and approval to conduct ship-to-ship LNG fuel operations with the LNG barge “Clean Jacksonville”. The expectation is that ship-to-ship LNG bunkering will start in early 2018. Jax LNG already supplies fuel for the LNG-fueled container ships of US shipping line TOTE Maritime. The fuel is supplied by Pivotal LNG who along with Southern Company Gas operates a network of LNG production facilities with the capacity to produce over 554,000 gallons per day and the ability to store more than 96 million gallons.
A multi-sector industry coalition aimed at accelerating the widespread adoption of liquefied natural gas as a marine fuel has added three new member companies from the US, India and Japan.
Construction is starting on a liquefied natural gas production and supply joint venture in the Port of Jacksonville in Florida with plans to load bunkering barges to deliver marine LNG up and down the East Coast of the United States.
