Gaz Metro, the utility and liquefied natural gas supplier in the French-speaking Canadian province of Quebec, has commissioned a new production Train at its small-scale liquefaction plant in the city of Montreal.
While the Canadian province of British Columbia’s LNG industry is frozen, the French-speaking province of Quebec is moving forward with some hydraulic fracturing in a potentially huge shale play and in LNG truck deliveries to remote areas.
June 14 (LNGJ) - Gaz Metro, the natural gas distribution company in the Canadian province of Quebec, announced the start of LNG supplies delivered by truck to the Stornoway Renard diamond mine, located in the Otish Mountains, more than 1,000 kilometres from Montreal. “For a number of years, Gaz Metro has wanted to supply natural gas to regions located far from its gas network, particularly Northern Quebec, so as to offer them access to a driver of economic development that is cleaner than oil,” said Sophie Brochu, Chief Executive of Gaz Metro. The mining company has opted for LNG regasified on-site rather than diesel to run its power plant to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Gaz Metro, the largest natural gas distribution company in Quebec with its network of over 10,000 kilometres of underground pipelines, has welcomed the French-speaking Canadian province’s new energy policy that will underpin increased use of liquefied natural gas as a fuel for road and marine transport and small-scale distribution.
