TotalEnergies and Eni have approved development of the Cronos gas field offshore Cyprus, a project that will route gas through Egypt’s LNG export infrastructure with first production expected in 2028.
QatarEnergy, ExxonMobil and Egypt have agreed to assess commercializing Cyprus gas discoveries via Egypt’s existing LNG infrastructure. Supply from the Aphrodite discovery, estimated at 4.5 trillion tcf, will be routed to Egypt’s underutilized liquefaction plants at Idku and Damietta, with 12.2 mtpa capacity combined.
August 29 - A consortium led by China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Corporation (CPPEC) has been chosen as the preferred bidder for the construction of an LNG terminal at Vassiliko Port in Cyprus.
The consortium, comprising Wilhelmsen Ship Management, Aktor, Metron and Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, is to build the LNG import terminal, which will include an FSRU, a mooring jetty, jetty and onshore pipelines, as well as additional ancillary facilities.

June 2 (LNGJ) - Italian oil and gas drilling and pipeline services company Saipem and energy firm Eni have signed a contract for offshore drilling in Mozambique’s water to monetize LNG feed-gas resources, using the drillship “Saipem 12000”. The contract is for 15 months and will start in mid-2019. “This contract will allow the company to participate in the development of the Coral field,” said Saipem. It added that Eni had also awarded it a contract for the drilling of two wells offshore Cyprus. “Work will once again be carried out by the ‘Saipem 12000’ and commence in the fourth quarter of 2017,” the Italian company said.
UK maritime classification society Lloyd’s Register has been awarded a crucial role in oil and gas development strategies in Cyprus, where liquefied natural gas production is being considered onshore and offshore as well as pipeline exports.
July 6 (LNGJ) - Italian energy company Eni said it would begin exploratory drilling offshore southern Cyprus in 2017. Eni Chief Executive Claudio Descalzi confirmed the decision after a meeting with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, that Eni remained committed to Cyprus and to the East Med in general as an exploration region. Noble Energy of the US and the Delek Group of Israeli have already been successful in Cypriot waters with the Aphrodite discovery amid related plans by Cyprus to build an onshore LNG plant at Vasilikos. Eni last year discovered the huge East Med Zohr natural gas field offshore Egypt with estimated resources of 30 trillion cubic feet.
