Crowley Maritime Corp. and subsidiary Jensen Maritime, the company’s Seattle-based naval architecture and marine engineering firm, have been honored with awards for the LNG-powered ships engaged in the US-Puerto Rico trade route.

Crowley Maritime Corp., the Florida-based shipping company for the Caribbean, said its fuels unit had acquired 40 additional cryogenic ISO tank containers to meet growing regional demand for US-sourced liquefied natural gas.

Crowley Maritime Corp., the US shipping group with operations from Florida to the Caribbean, said one of its subsidiaries signed another multi-year supply contract with Pivotal LNG of the US to support a major pharmaceutical company's energy needs in the US territory of Puerto Rico.

Crowley LNG Alaska, a unit of the shipping company Crowley Maritime, was awarded a contract to supply the fuel to a small dual-fuel power plant that serves a remote community near Fairbanks in Alaska.

May 24 (LNGJ) - The Crowley Maritime Corp. subsidiary in the US territory of Puerto Rico said it signed an additional contract valued at $21 million for improvements and upgrades at its Isla Grande port terminal in San Juan. It is the latest in a series of investments in support of Crowley’s plans for more efficient operations in the Caribbean region using LNG fuel. “The contract is the third awarded that is associated with Crowley’s investment in its Isla Grande terminal in preparation for the arrival next year of the first of Crowley’s two new LNG-powered, Commitment Class ships now under construction in Pascagoula, Mississippi,” the company said.

Eagle LNG said it had started the construction of its Florida liquefaction plant in the port city of Jacksonville to supply the marine fuels market and other sectors from 2017.

May 5 (LNGJ) - Crowley Maritime Corp., the US shipping line, was holding a naming ceremony on May 5 at the Port of New Orleans for its vessel “Louisiana”, the latest of four new Jones Act product tankers capable of being converted to liquefied natural gas propulsion. The 50,000 dead-weight-tons, 330,000-barrel-capacity ship is among the first tankers to receive the American Bureau of Shipping’s LNG-Ready approval. The ship will operate in the US Gulf Coast and is capable of carrying crude oil or refined petroleum products for its charterer, Marathon Petroleum Corp.

April 18 (LNGJ) - Crowley Maritime Corp., the US shipping line, has taken delivery of its newest vessel, the “Louisiana”, the third of four product tankers being built by the Philly Shipyard of Philadelphia. “The new tankers are at the forefront of the industry for their potential future conversion to LNG propulsion,” Crowley said. Crowley’s fourth product tanker is under construction. The “Louisiana” joins sister ships “Ohio” and “Texas”, the first tankers to receive the American Bureau of Shipping’s LNG-Ready Level 1 approval. This allows Crowley to convert the tanker to LNG propulsion in the future.

US shipping group Crowley has applied to the Canadian National Energy Board for an export permit to ship LNG south by truck, barge or ship from small-scale liquefaction plants currently operating or being expanded in Canada.
