Cosco dives into LNG dual-fuel boxships with CSSC mega-order
Cosco Shipping is expanding its exposure on LNG-capable tonnage with an order for 87 new vessels from several yards affiliated with China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). The order, valued at more than RMB 50 billion (about US$7 billion), covers container ships, bulk carriers, tankers and car carriers scheduled to be delivered through to 2030.
COSCO’s FLNG unit gets DNV approval
China’s COSCO Shipping (Qidong) Offshore and the COSCO shipyard (Nantong) have received approval in principle (AiP) from the Norwegian classification society DNV, along with a main scantling approval for their new concept for a floating liquefaction and storage unit. The innovative new FLNG concept reflects the industry’s drive for flexible, lower-carbon energy solutions, commented DNV’s regional manager for greater China, Norbert Kray.
Chinese energy group Sinopec takes delivery of LNG carrier to ship cargoes from Queensland
China Petroleum and Chemical Corp., known as Sinopec, has taken delivery of its first dedicated vessel to ship cargoes from the Australian Pacific LNG plant in the state of Queensland.

Thousands of people watched the first vessel, especially renamed the “COSCO Shipping Panama”, inaugurate the $5.5 billion widening of the Panama Canal linking the Atlantic and Pacific basins and enabling larger ships such as LNG carriers to transit.
