June 18 (LNGJ) - Swiss-based commodities company Vitol has won a tender to supply a single liquefied natural gas cargo to Jordan's National Electric Power Co. (Jepco), the Arab nation's oldest utility responsible for supplying almost 70 percent of its electricity. Jordan received its first cargo of LNG in May 2015 after the deployment of the "Golar Eskimo" Floating Storage and Regasification Unit at the Port of Aqaba to serve as an import terminal. The Jordanian cargo from Vitol is scheduled to arrive in August. Jordan has several combined-cycle power plants that use natural gas or fuel oil. Jepco has also signed a memorandum of understanding to receive 45 billion cubic metres of pipeline natural gas from Israel over 15 years to replace Egyptian supplies.
