June 8 (LNGJ) - The Oil Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Suhail bin Mohammed al-Mazroui, said the UAE would soon be awarding the engineering and construction contract for the planned onshore liquefied natural gas import terminal in Fujairah. "We are close. We have received the bids and we are in the final evaluation phase," Al-Mazroui said. The UAE, an LNG exporter from its Das Island plant in the Persian Gulf and an importer of cargoes in Dubai, is planning the Fujairah terminal to increase energy security outside of Gulf waters.The development company, Emirates LNG, has already signed an agreement to lease 260,000 square metres of land from the government of Fujairah, one of the seven emirates that make up the UAE and the only one to have a coastline on the Gulf of Oman.
