Oct 19 (LNGJ) - Peru, the only South American LNG exporter, said China National Petroleum Corp. had made discoveries of up to 4 trillion cubic feet of proven natural gas resources in an exploration block it operates in southern Peru. CNPC, the parent company of PetroChina, bought the rights to explore Block 58 in Peru's southern Amazon region from Brazilian state energy company Petrobras in 2014. The discovery could free up domestic supplies for LNG exports as well as provide capacity for a new south-north pipeline in the region.
