Mar 17 (LNGJ) - Japanese classification society Nippon Kaiji Kyokai, known as ClassNK, said its registration figures revealed it was the world's largest class society. ClassNK, which has 59 LNG carriers on its books, said latest figures showed that over 366 million deadweight tons were now registered with the Japanese society, some 21 percent of the world's entire classed fleet. Speaking in Tokyo, ClassNK President Noboru Ueda said: "At ClassNK, we believe that nationality is not relevant to our customers. These figures represent not only the growth of our organization, but also the trust we have gained from the maritime industry."
