Jan 19 (LNGJ) - Italian energy company Eni obtained a three-year extension from the Angolan authorities to the exploration period of the prolific Block 15/06, located offshore Angola, about 130 kilometres east of the town of Soyo, where the Angola LNG plant is located. The original exploration period expired in November 2014 and Eni requested an extension for exploration activities. Eni is operator of block 15/06 with a 35 percent stake and Angolan energy company Sonangol is the concessionaire. The Angola LNG plant is in the midst of a long shutdown uutil mid-2015 while technical faults are repaired. The facility uses associated natural gas produced from existing crude oil operations. Eni is one of the five partners in the Angola LNG plant, operated by Chevron Corp.
