Dec 5 (LNGJ) - US natural gas proved reserves increased 10 percent and to record levels last year, more than replacing the 7 percent decline in reserves seen in 2012. The total of proved natural gas reserves has now risen to 354 trillion cubic feet, the US Energy Information Administration said. Pennsylvania and West Virginia reported the largest net increases in reserves, driven by continued development of the Marcellus shale play, the largest in the country. These two states added 21.8 Tcf of natural gas reserves last year 13.5 Tcf in Pennsylvania and 8.3 Tcf in West Virginia, and provided 70 percent of the net increase in reserves over the year.
