Nov 4 (LNGJ) - Germany, the major European nation that has shown the least enthusiasm for LNG because of its large long-term contracts for Russian pipeline natural gas, is receiving 4 million euros ($5M) in European Union grants for a combined passenger and freight ferry fuelled by LNG and to be built in Germany. "The ferry will serve as a pilot for a new generation of 'green ships', which aim to cut down on air pollution," the EU said. In 2015 new European regulations come in requiring the shipping sector to reduce marine sulphur emissions in the North Sea and Baltic port areas to almost zero. Ships can use LNG or exhaust emission cleaners for other oil-based fuels.
