Sept 29 (LNGJ) - The Joint Shipping Initiative to ease the transport of LNG carriers and other vessels through pirate areas of the Horn of Africa, made up of Shell, BP, Maersk, Stena and Japanese shipping companies NYK Line, Mitsui Osk Lines and "K" Line, will give $1.5 million of additional funds to the UN to improve the lives of Somalis and security for seafarers. "Development projects that provide an alternative livelihood to would-be pirates are a vital element of the long-term solution to piracy," said Grahaeme Henderson, Vice President of Shell Shipping & Maritime.
