ALASKAN LNG exports will be loaded at the port of Valdez if the Alaska Gasline Port Authority has its way. Valdez is the preferred option for the loading of LNG cargoes from joint production projects set to be developed by the major energy companies operating in the US state. Valdez has the main advantage of being the safest deepwater port and the northernmost North American port free of ice throughout the year, according to a risk analysis report. The chief executives of ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips, BP and TransCanada recently announced an agreement to work jointly on developing Alaskan energy resources by focusing on LNG. They said they would develop their projects as an alternative to huge investment in the Alaska Pipeline Project to Canada. The four companies have agreed on a work plan aimed at commercializing North Slope natural gas within the framework of the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act.
