Feb 9 (LNGJ) - The US Department of Energy plans to update the permitting process for LNG export applications. Currently eight US LNG export projects have entered the permitting process from Texas and Louisiana in the South, to Maryland in the Northeast and Oregon in the Northwest. Christopher Smith, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the DOE's Office of Fossil Energy, said: "One of the mandates that we have gotten from the administration is to look at all the processes that we manage as regulators, look at all the requirements we are putting on businesses and make sure the things we are asking of businesses are consistent with the risks that we need to mitigate."
