Australia’s largest ever conference focusing on LNG heard bullish forecasts as the nation becomes a leading world player and the main exporter to China, amid debate on a controversial carbon tax.
Australia currently has A$88 billion (US$94Bln) of LNG projects under construction and another A$130Bln of new ventures on the drawing board, including several huge coal-seam gas-to- LNG developments in Queensland involving Chinese stake holders.
Australia’s future climate policy was one of a number of issues discussed at the 51st conference held in Perth, Western Australia, from April 10-13 of the Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association (APPEA) and attended by around 3,000 people.
The conference heard that in 2010 alone more than $3.5Bln was spent on Australian onshore and offshore explora-tion and there have been several major new Australian natural gas discoveries made.
