China's natural gas imports, both via pipeline and as LNG, totalled 75.44 mill tonnes in the first seven months of this year - a 12.9% increase year-on-year.
According to data published by China’s customs department on 7th August, July imports totalled 10.85 mill tonnes.
It was thought that this import surge was down to softer global LNG prices, making imports more attractive.
In 2023, China imported 119.9 mill tonnes of natural gas, a 9.9% increase, compared to the previous year, the department reported in January.
