June 16 (LNGJ) - Chiyoda Corp., the Japanese energy and LNG project engineer, was awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract by oil and gas and LNG market participant Inpex Corp. for a methanation test plant.
The plant is part of a technology development project being conducted by Inpex and LNG importer and utility Osaka Gas, under a Japanese New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) grant, to demonstrate the practical application of a CO2-methanation system for the carbon neutralization of gas. “The test plant’s equipment will have the world’s largest e-methane production capacity of approximately 400 Nm3-CO2/h and, through this project, Chiyoda will contribute to the early implementation of methanation technology, a key component for gas decarbonization,” said Yokohama-based Chiyoda.
