Jan 15 (LNGJ) - Russian natural gas company Gazprom, the largest in the world in terms of reserves and production, said it posted a third-quarter net loss of 2 billion rubles (US$26 million) compared with market expectations of a loss of 17Bln rubles ($220M) . Total nine-month sales to Europe amounted to 125.3 billion cubic metres of gas, the equivalent of about 90 million tonnes of LNG,  compared with 122.5 Bcm in the year-earlier period, a rise of 2.3 percent. "In a challenging period for the natural resources industry, Gazprom retains a number of positive factors that provide a certain level of insulation," the company said. "Whilst gas prices have fallen, core exports remain strong and Gazprom retains the unique ability to service multiple wholesale continental gas markets."
