World relies on fossil fuels again after Covid slump

A historic fall in the world’s energy consumption and carbon emission during the Covid-19 pandemic was rapidly reversed last year, when oil, gas and coal staged a comeback. Findings in BP’s Annual Statistical Review highlight the difficulty of achieving pledges made at the COP26 climate summit, as hydrocarbon consumption keeps rising despite a jump in prices; Anja Karl has more.
