Nov 24 (LNGJ) - The Government of Gibraltar said its current liquefied natural gas plans for the UK territory only cover building storage to supply a new power station. "Considering the small capacity of the tanks we confirm that the LNG stored there would not be sufficient to sustain a bunkering industry of any magnitude whatsoever and is not intended to do so," a statement said. "The Government has always been clear about the fact that it separately wishes to explore LNG bunkering as an industry for the future. LNG is predicted to markedly increase in importance as a fuel for shipping. This is largely as a result of pressure on the shipping industry to reduce the significant pollution that it currently causes and in an effort to reduce its carbon footprint," it added.
