Sept 23 (LNGJ) - The LNG export business on the US Gulf of Mexico is a timely replacement for the declining offshore exploration and production activities in the region. The US Gulf of Mexico share of global active offshore rigs has plunged in the last 15 years. "Over the past 15 years, the US Gulf's share of active offshore rigs worldwide has declined significantly - from almost half of all active offshore rigs worldwide in 2000 to less than 20 percent since 2008," the US Energy Information Administration noted in a report. Natural gas prospects in the US Gulf have also become less profitable compared with onshore  shale-gas resources.
