Gazprom has loaded its first cargo from the new Portovaya LNG plant, located near Vysotsk, close to the Finnish border.
At present, the plant has a capacity of 1.5 mill tonnes per annum.
“The cargo was on board the ‘Pskov’ LNG vessel, which is now broadcasting a destination of Port Said that provides entry to the Suez Canal in Egypt,” said Olumide Ajayi, senior LNG analyst at Refinitiv, citing Eikon data, talking with Reuters.
He added that the vessel could be heading towards Asia with other sources saying that India could be its final destination.
Gazprom recently said that it will consider the construction of another train at the LNG plant with capacity of up to 2 mill tonnes per year and would employ domestic technologies and equipment at the facility if the decision to build the train is made.
Meanwhile, Reuters said that China had been actively buying Russian LNG cargoes at rates reportedly close to half the spot market price.
China’s LNG imports from Russia hit a record in August at 664,000 tonnes, according to Refinitiv Eikon data.
