LNG originating from the Qatargas IV project, which will build Qatar’s seventh LNG production Train, will be delivered to the East Coast of the US through the terminal from 2010.

Qatargas said the ceremony was attended by Ahmed Al-Khulaifi, Qatargas’s Chief Operating Officer. He said Elba Island would become one of the the main receiving terminals in the US for LNG originating from Qatar.

“The facility is a critical link in the LNG value chain we are working hard to complete. This is a clear testament to the growing energy partnership between the United States and Qatar,” Al-Khulaifi said.

The ceremony celebrated the start of construction of the Phase III expansion at Elba Island and was also attended by representatives from the major partners and local officials.

Qtaragas added that construction activities for Qatargas IV project were "in full swing and on track for start-up around the end of the decade." Qatargas IV is a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum and Shell.
