The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission said it would issue an environmental assessment by August for Cheniere Energy's proposed Train 5 and Train 6 expansion, along with an additional pipeline, at its Sabine Pass export plant in Louisiana.
Sabine Pass is the only LNG export project to secure final approval from FERC to begin construction and authorization from the Department of Energy to export to countries that do not have a Free Trade Agreement with the US.
Cheniere is already building four liquefaction Trains at the facility that would export around 18 million tonnes per annum, with each Train having 4.5 MTPA of capacity.
The Houston-based company, through its Sabine Pass Liquefaction and other subsidiaries, filed applications with FERC to add two further Trains for an additional 9 MTPA. The first two Sabine Pass Trains are scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2015.
