A $152 million contract has been signed for the construction of 26 modular local electrical rooms (LER) and local instrumentation rooms (LIR) at fabrication yards in the Philippines for the Ichthys LNG project in Australia.

The contract was awarded to AG&P by JKC, a consortium including JGC Corp. and Chiyoda of Japan and KBR of the US, lead engineers for the Ichthys LNG project being developed by Inpex and Total.

AG&P will fabricate and assemble the modules at its Batangas yards in the Philippines and deliver them to the project site in Northern Australia.

The three-year AG&P contract will begin in the first quarter of 2013. It will involve the construction of the LERs and LIRs, as well as the
integration of electrical and instrumentation equipment, together weighing over 17,000 tonnes.

LERs, specialized modules housing electrical transformers and switch gears which control all power distribution onsite, and LIRs, specialized rooms housing equipment used to monitor project progress, are critical to the success of the overall venture.

"The modules will be 100 percent mission-ready, with almost no additional work required upon their arrival in Australia, other than hook-up," AG&P said.

"This contract illustrates the construction industry's readiness and need to develop more comprehensive and complete modules - no longer just steel and pipe, but fully outfitted with complex electrical and instrumentation systems installed and tested prior to shipment," said Joseph Sigelman, Chairman of AG&P.
