Australian energy company Santos said it was advised by Esso Highlands Ltd., an affiliate of ExxonMobil and developer of the PNG LNG project that a landslide had occurred in the Hides area of the Southern Highlands of Papua New Guinea.
The Papua New Guinean authorities are responding to the incident which occurred in the area from where feed-gas will be sent to the PNG LNG plant in the ExxonMobil-led venture.
Santos Chief Executive David Knox said: "We share ExxonMobil's concern for the workforce and the communities in the affected area."
"Esso Highlands has been in communication with government, including the National Disaster and Emergency Relief Office.
"Our immediate concern is for the safety and wellbeing of our workforce and the community in the area. We have offered our support to the Government and the local community.
"The main road between Nogoli and Hides has been blocked. Esso Highlands shut down work in the Hides and Komo area," the statement added.
