The European Union (EU) gas price cap introduced during the 2022 Russian gas crisis expired last Friday, having not been triggered since its inception.
It was designed to kick in, if European gas prices hit €180 per MWh - a level the benchmark EU price has not reached since the energy crisis in 2022, caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, when it surpassed €300 per MWh.
