India looks to small-scale LNG plants
Indian State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) is exploring the development of small- scale LNG plants.
This move is to facilitate the processing of natural gas from wells located in areas without pipeline connectivity.
ONGC has identified five potential sites in Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Gujarat.
These plants will be located at wellheads, and would convert natural gas into LNG, which would be loaded onto cryogenic road trucks for transport to the nearest pipeline, where it will be re-gasified and integrated into the existing network to supply users, including power plants, fertiliser units, and city gas retailers.
ONGC has issued a tender inviting bids from manufacturers and service providers to develop the stranded natural gas. The sites identified for the mini-LNG plants included two at Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh and one each at Ankleshwar in Gujarat, Bokaro in Jharkhand, and Cambay in Gujarat.
According to the tender, despite India's extensive network of pipelines connecting supply and demand areas, a significant volume of stranded gas remains untapped.
