QatarEnergy is currently in discussions with Kuwait Petroleum Corp (KPC) regarding the long-term supply of LNG.
Kuwait’s state-owned oil and gas company is looking for help to meet the rising demand for energy generation, according to a report by Reuters,
This partnership could lead to the supply of around 3 mill tonnes per annum of LNG over 15 years.
A deal is expected to be announced in the fourth quarter of this year, with the LNG coming from Qatar’s North Field project, which is expected to be operational by 2026.
Recently, Kuwait underwent a second round of scheduled power outages during the summer caused by a gas supply malfunction. This followed outages in June, at which time, officials confirmed that there wouldn’t be any more cuts.
The country is seeking to ramp up gas production and continue to increase gas imports as part of its 2040 growth strategy, which is aimed at meeting rising power demand, especially during the summer when temperatures hit above 50 deg C and energy consumption rises, due to the need to ramp up air conditioning systems.
