Before the Russian invasion of Ukraine liquefied natural gas trading was likely to overtake pipeline gas trade by 2030 and was forecast to reach 1,150 billion cubic metres per annum by 2050, though timelines may now shorten and volumes may expand because of doubts over Russia’s future market role.
