Bangladesh state-owned Petrobangla has signed an agreement with HSBC to ensure imported LNG bills are paid on time.

This deal was dubbed ‘Clean Import Loan’ (CIL), according to local media sources.

Bangladesh is currently importing lean LNG under long term deals with Qatar’s RasGas, since merged with QatarGas, and Oman Trading International (OTI).

From next month, Bangladesh will initially import LNG from the spot market to take advantage of low gas prices.

Two FSRUs, one operated by Excelerate Energy and the other by local concern Summit Group, are regasifying around 600 mill cu ft per day of LNG, local sources said. Each has a capacity to regasify around 500 mill cu ft per day.

Petrobangla handles around five or six import cargoes per month at the two FSRUs.
