Little room would be left for US LNG imports to China if the country were to take the full 50 Bcm/y capacity of the Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline, analysts suggest. If CNPC was to absorb the full throughput of the proposed gas interconnector, Gazprom could dent 42-45% of Chinese gas imports by 2040.

Just ten counties in the Permian Basin – a vast geological formation spanning New Mexico and Texas – are home of 1.9 million barrels per day, or 93% in US oil production growth. Increasingly gassy wells help underpin the fast-rising feedgas needs as the build-out of US LNG export capacity progresses.

The Indian government aims to expand LNG import capacity to 66.7 mtpa by 2030 – a 27% rise from the current 52.7 mtpa – thanks to two projected regas terminals. The build-out aligns with government policies to more than double the share of gas in the national power gen mix to 15% by the end of the decade.

Argent LNG has reached an early milestone at its 25 mtpa export terminal at Port Forchon, Louisiana, with the submission of a Letter of Intent (LOI) and Preliminary Waterway Suitability Assessment (PWSA) to the U.S. Coast Guard.

Commonwealth LNG is progressing towards a final investment decision (FID) following final approval from the US Department of Energy (DOE) to export up to 1.21 Bcf/d of LNG to non-free trade agreement (FTA) countries. With all permits now in hand, Kimmeridge is gearing up for an FID in Q3-2025.

Chinese buyers return to spot LNG market

Chinese buyers return to the spot market amid a stark drop in prices. Beijing Gas and Zhejiang Energy reportedly procured LNG cargoes at around $10/MMBtu this August for autumn arrival.

Expand Energy, the largest gas producer in Haynesville Shale, is poised to cash in from the basin’s proximity to expanding LNG terminals. “Within a 300-mile radius of our Haynesville assets, there are more than 12 bcf/d of LNG demand under construction to be in service by 2030,” Nick Dell’Osso, CEO of Expand Energy told analysts.

Trafigura has agreed to supply 1.5 mtpa of LNG to Korea Gas Corp (KOGAS) over ten years, beginning in 2026. Deliveries will include cargoes sourced from Cheniere Energy.
