Baker Hughes Company, the oil and gas services and equipment provider, posted lower fourth-quarter profits while pushing ahead with the provision of liquefaction plant equipment, winning a major order for Mozambique LNG in southeast Africa.
Baker Hughes Co., the energy services provider and LNG equipment supplier, said it expected an increase in liquefied natural project activity as it posted solid third-quarter results and more contract wins since regaining its independence from General Electric.
Baker Hughes-GE, the US energy services and equipment company, said it was awarded the contract to supply turbomachinery for the construction of the Golden Pass LNG export facility in Texas following the recent decision by Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil to go ahead with the venture.
Baker Hughes-GE, the US energy services company and a main provider of turbomachinery for liquefied natural gas production plants, said the LNG outlook was improving and the company “conservatively” estimates a total of 65 million tonnes per annum of new capacity would be sanctioned by 2020.
Norwegian company Global LNG Services (GLS), a developer of floating liquefaction hulls, said it had selected US energy services company Baker Hughes-GE to supply equipment as it makes progress on its Main Pass FLNG project to be located 16 miles offshore Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico.
US energy services and equipment company Baker Hughes-GE won a contract to supply more turbomachinery to power the third Train at the Cheniere Energy LNG export plant at the Texan port of Corpus Christi.
The merged Baker Hughes-GE Oil and Gas (BHGE) company, a key supplier of services and equipment to the LNG industry, said its board of directors had elected President and Chief Executive Lorenzo Simonelli as Chairman of the BHGE board.

One of the challenging aspects of transporting liquefied natural gas to the growing world market is finding the most efficient way to handle boil-off gas during the carrier’s voyage.
Many LNG carriers have employed steam-turbine propulsion systems fuelled by boil-off. Outside of the area of steam-based propulsion, there is no efficient use of the gas.
At the same time, the good, old steam propulsion has been losing popularity and could actually become “a thing of the past”, some experts have suggested.

The LNG business is generally governed by risk-sharing consortia as well as by long-term supply and ship charter contracts with durations up to 20 or 30 years.
A reliable and stable LNG supply from the producing to the consuming country is an essential requirement in this business, but equally imperative is the continuous search for increased profitability in the transport chain.
