Hazard and safety probes for LNG tanks

Josef Rötzer, Hamish Douglas, Helmut Maurer
Dywidag International, Munich

The investigation of containments for the storage of liquefied natural gas has to be extended to their behaviour under blast wave conditions, dependent on the risk prevailing on the site.
As in the case of earthquakes (See LNG journal July/August 2005), the investigation of the blast load case must consider the complete tank structure.

Josef Rötzer, Hamish Douglas, Helmut Maurer
Dywidag International GmbH, Munich

In Parts 1 and 2 of this contribution the hazard scenarios earthquake, impact and blast were described. In Part 3 a further hazard scenario, liquid spill is investigated. LNG terminal trends and choice advance

Chris Pashalis,  President  FMC Technologies SA

The present high prices of natural gas coupled to high demand for electricity and the inherent flexibility offered by LNG, have led to a considerable increase in the number of offloading terminals that will be required.

LNG demand is forecast to continue to rise by about 7 percent a year and go from 138.5 million tonnes in 2005 to 196-232 million tonnes in 2010 and 310-375 million tonnes by 2020.

LNG QUALITY CONTROL

Processes help turn mean LNG into lean gas

LNG receiving terminals in some areas require less C2 and C3 and most LNG produced cannot meet gas specifications required in the US

This complicates operations and marketing of liquefaction facilities because Asian-Pacific markets favor higher heating value LNG
