EU member states spent more than €7.2 billion ($8.4 billion) on Yamal LNG last year – despite a full ban on LNG imports coming into force on January 1, 2027.  “Russia has no adequate alternative to the EU market,” Urgewalt analysts commented, noting more than three-quarters of all Yamal LNG exports currently go to Europe.

US oil giant Chevron has taken a final investment decision (FID) to expand gas production at the Leviathan field in Israel in a bid to boost gas supplies to neighbouring Egypt, which exports LNG to European buyers.

Aktor’s joint venture with Greece’s state gas supplier Depa has signed a deal with Venture Global to import US LNG for domestic use and re-export to Ukraine and Romania. Initial re-exports are intended to start as early as 2026.

The value of US-Mexico trade is shifting as Mexico evolves as a conduit for re-exporting American gas to global LNG markets. Though US exports rose 5% the trade value fell more than 30% to $4.2 billion during the first half of 2025, largely due to lower fuel prices.
