US federal regulators have granted NextDecade another three years to complete the first five trains at its Rio Grande LNG export project, extending the in-service-deadline to November 2031. NextDecade subsequently filed an application for train 6.

Commonwealth LNG has been granted a regulatory extension of four years to complete its 9.5 mtpa Louisiana export terminal, with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approving a new construction deadline of 31 December 2031.

Sempra has asked the US Department of Energy (DOE) to extend the export deadline for its $2.5 billion Energia Costa Azul LNG terminal on Mexico’s Pacific Coast. Construction delays push back commissioning to September 21, 2026.

Developers of Freeport LNG have filed to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for a 40-month extension to complete Train 4 expansion. If granted, the extension would postpone the in-service deadline from August 1, 2028, to December 1, 2031.

Taiwan is one of the few markets in Asia where LNG demand is rising with a steady and substantial pace. Over 4.4 GW of new gas-fuelled power generation capacity is scheduled to start operations, underpinning LNG imports, while Taiwan’s law-making court is reviewing if the runtime of the final 951 MW unit at Maanshan nuclear power station can be extended.

Enagas, the Spanish natural gas company and LNG terminals owner, said it plans to build a new reception terminal at El Musel, near the city of Gijón in northern Spain.
