India has lifted an order imposing restrictions on gas suppliers as LNG deliveries from the Middle East resume. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Saturday withdrew provisions which had mandated all imported LNG and domestically produced gas to be sold to a list of priority customers.
India’s energy security is under strain due to loss of Qatari LNG deliveries, prompting Petronet to activate emergency clauses in other import agreements and scrambles for spot cargoes from Australia and the US to offset the shortfall.
The Group of Seven (G-7) is today discussing a joint release of oil from emergency reserves, coordinated by the International Energy Agency (IEA). The move comes as oil prices skyrocketed more than 25 percent today (March 9) amid fears of a prolonged halt in shipping through the Strait of Homuz, which could cause severe oil and LNG shortages and disrupt supply chains in Europe and Asia.
