The “Annual BP Statistical Review of World Energy”, published for the past 71 years, reported that natural gas prices rebounded strongly across all three major gas regions, rising four-fold to record annual levels in Europe and tripling in the Asian LNG spot market.
Liquefied natural gas spot demand for North Asia showed little signs of declining much through the North Hemisphere winter into 2022 as overall cargo liftings rose and European gas benchmarks lost further ground compared with the Pacific Basin amid a more than 5 percent drop in crude oil prices.
Oil prices increased more than 3 percent on expectations the leading crude-producing nations would agree to cut output as the coronavirus continues to depress demand while natural gas and LNG prices remained flat, weighed down by excess supplies.
Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said his nation planned to obtain a 20 percent share of the global liquefied natural gas market thanks to its abundant natural gas reserves, particularly in Siberia where the Yamal LNG plant is operating and several other ventures are planned.
Global natural gas trade expanded last year by 63 billion cubic metres, or 6.2 percent, with growth in LNG outpacing growth in pipeline trading, according to the 67th edition of the BP Statistical Review of World Energy.
