JERA Co. Inc, Japan’s biggest liquefied natural gas importer and utility company, has agreed to acquire a large stake in the Scarborough gas field development offshore Western Australia from Woodside Energy for US$1.5 billion, giving a financial boost to the Pluto LNG expansion.
Western Australian LNG operator Woodside and Anglo-Australia commodities company BHP have decided to align their interests in the offshore Scarborough gas field to ease the path to expansion of the Pluto LNG plant on the Burrup Peninsula.
Australian liquefied natural gas producer Woodside Petroleum recovered from a disastrous 2019 second quarter with a jump in third-quarter LNG revenue because the Pluto plant was back on line, though earnings were still lower than the third quarter of 2018.
