Two of the UK’s leading shale-gas companies, IGas Energy and Cuadrilla Resources, have welcomed the Government’s commitment to domestic gas production and repeated their pledge to give a share of revenues to local people near the existing likely shale-gas production sites in the North of England.
UK major BP has agreed a $5 billion deal to sell its global petrochemicals business to Ineos, a European chemicals and refinery company and an importer of ethane made from US shale gas.
IGas, the leading UK shale-gas exploration company, reported extremely positive prospects for the nation’s shale resources as a preferred alternative at minimum cost compared with growing and expensive LNG shipments from Qatar and elsewhere and Norwegian pipeline gas supplies.

May 18 (LNGJ) - UK shale-gas developer IGas Energy said it welcomed the UK Government’s support and commitment to the industry as laid out in a written ministerial statement. “It reiterates that shale-gas development is of national importance,” said IGas. The government also plans to publish revised planning guidance soon for shale development that could eventually lessen the need for LNG imports. “We welcome the Government’s commitment to pursue safe, secure and affordable supplies of energy,” said Stephen Bowler, IGas Chief Executive. “We currently import 50 percent of our gas requirement at a significant financial cost to the UK taxpayer of over £13 million ($17M) a day,” he added.
Sept 20 (LNGJ) - IGas Energy of the UK, one of the leading shale-gas and hydrocarbon companies for onshore Britain, posted first-half earnings of £8 million ($10.8M) compared with a loss of £25M in the same six-month period of 2016. “Momentum in UK shale activity continues to increase with Cuadrilla now drilling its first well at Preston New Road, Third Energy expecting to start hydraulic fracturing at its KM8 well in North Yorkshire in the next few months and Ineos having submitted further applications for shale appraisal,” said Stephen Bowler, IGas Chief Executive. “We will shortly commence site construction at our two sites in North Nottinghamshire,” added Bowler. “In the North West, we have applied to conduct further tests on our site at Ellesmere Port and we are developing applications for appraisal and flow testing in both the North West and the East Midlands,” he said.
IGas Energy, one of the leaders of the onshore shale-gas industry in England, said it was ready to move forward with a $230 million work programme at a “critical juncture” in the UK for the future of its energy supply.
Ineos, one of the largest participants in the UK shale-gas sector and the importer of the first US shale-gas cargo to Britain, has concluded a $250 million deal with BP to purchase the British major’s Forties field offshore North Sea pipelines and associated onshore infrastructure.
Ineos, one of the largest global chemical companies and the importer of the first US shale-gas cargo into the UK, is now broadening its presence in British shale gas exploration to lessen its future reliance on imports.
