China Petroleum and Chemical Corp., known as Sinopec, has been given the go-ahead by the state planning body to build another onshore LNG import terminal at Longkou in Shandong province at a cost of 8.3 billion Chinese yuan ($1.28Bln) and taking the size of nation’s network to 24 facilities.
China confirmed that 2020 liquefied natural gas imports hit a record as energy needs continued to grew even after the slowdown in the first half caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Beijing Gas, the growing liquefied natural and pipeline supplier, maintained substantial revenues in the first half of 2020 while profits fell as the company said it was advancing its LNG import projects in Tianjin and Tangshan.
A second liquefied natural gas carrier is heading for China after the early re-opening of the Northern Sea Route (NSR) from Arctic Russia to North Asia and could arrive as early as June 16.
Chinese liquefied natural gas imports rose 25 percent in March compared with the same month a year ago and the nation has also begun to improve its natural gas storage facilities to help meet peak demand.
