Sept 18 (LNGJ) - Tallink Group, the operator of a ferry service between the Baltic state of Estonia and Finland, said the keel was laid for the company’s latest LNG-powered shuttle ferry, the “MyStar”, at the Finnish Rauma Marine shipyard. Delivery of the vessel is planned for January 2022. It will have a maximum speed of 27 knots and be able to carry 2,800 passengers and accommodate 750 vehicles on four car decks.
MAN Energy Solutions, the Denmark-based subsidiary of the German engine-maker, has won the order to supply the engines for a shuttle ferry newbuild for Tallink Grupp, the Estonian shipping company, and the vessel will have liquefied natural gas as a primary fuel.
The newest liquefied natural gas-powered fast ferry in Europe, the “Megastar”, is starting its regular services between Helsinki in Finland and Tallinn in the Baltic state of Estonia after receiving its fuel from a truck in the Finnish capital’s West Harbour port.
Tallink Grupp, the ferry company based in the Baltic state of Estonia, said its new $255-million vessel powered with liquefied natural gas is progressing and has been named “Megastar” at a ceremony held at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland.
